What happens at the consultation
Your story
He asks where it hurts, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and what it stops you doing. He also asks about past injuries, operations, illnesses and the medicines you take.
The examination
He looks at the joint or limb, checks how it moves, how strong it is and how you walk. He compares it with the other side. Wear or bring clothes that let him see the knee, hip, or shoulder without fuss.
Scans only if needed
Many problems can be judged from the story and the examination. If an X-ray, an MRI or a blood test would change the plan, you may be asked to have one. If you already have recent scans, he looks at those first.
A plan you understand
He tells you what he thinks is wrong, what the choices are (including doing nothing for now), and the benefits and risks of each. You decide together.
What to bring
Bringing these saves time and can save a repeat scan.
- Your Emirates ID (or passport if you are visiting).
- Your insurance card, if you are using insurance.
- Earlier X-rays, MRI or CT scans and their reports: the disc, a download link or the films.
- Letters from other doctors, operation notes and physiotherapy notes, if you have them.
- A list of every medicine you take, including vitamins and herbal products, and any allergies.
- For a knee, hip, ankle or foot problem: the shoes you usually walk in. How they wear can show how you walk.
Questions you may want to ask
- What do you think is causing my pain?
- What are my choices, and what happens if I wait?
- Do I need a scan, and what will it tell us?
- What can I do at home in the meantime?
- When should I come back, and what should make me call sooner?
How long to allow
Ask the clinic how long to allow when you book, and whether you should come early to register. If you need an X-ray on the day, allow extra time for it.
Changing or cancelling your booking
Call or message the clinic on the number at the top of this page, as early as you can. Message the clinic again if your plans change.
If your problem gets much worse before the appointment, do not wait for it. Read when a bone or joint problem is an emergency.
Questions patients ask
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Subhash?
Usually not. You can book directly. Some insurance plans ask for a referral or for approval before scans or surgery; ask your insurer, or read the insurance page.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. Many patients bring a family member. A second pair of ears helps you remember what was said and what to do next.
Will I need an X-ray at my first visit?
Not always. He asks for a scan only when it would change the plan. If you already have recent scans, bring them; they may be enough.
What languages does he speak?
English, Hindi and Telugu.
